The freeway life of yore

America is a nation shaped by freeways and road travel. After the Interstate Highway System began in the late 50s and early 60s, Americans began to travel cross-country by car. Even for the shorter journeys, sometimes the needed to stop and fill up their tanks or their stomachs.
